| Crostaciano, Father |
Priest who attempted to hide Professor Frostauger's revelations about Saint Floradora [St. Fidgeta & Other Parodies, 81]; Rector Tranquillus of Rome's Instituto Superbo.
Bowen says the root of this Tranquil Rector's name appears to be based on crust (as in 'crostini') - "make of that what you will. I'm inclined to mark this one off as a complete joke."
Myers contributes a possible echo of crustacean (i.e. a crab or lobster). "This interpretation doesn't exactly make the passage spring alive with meaning."
Instituto Superbo is a Bellairsian take on the Italian term, Instituto Superiore. |
