Byron Ferguson is a resident of Duston Heights, Massachusetts and a friend of Johnny Dixon. Asked to be called Fergie when he is first introduced (on account no one in their right mind wants to be known as Byron), while examining supernatural events Fergie plays the sometime-skeptic in the trio alongside Johnny and Professor Childermass. His no-nonsense approach to situations and devil-may-care attitude make him the opposite of the timid, worrywart Johnny, and there has been occasional friction between the two, but their friendship stays strong throughout their myriad of adventures.
Johnny and Fergie first meet at Camp Chocorua and quickly form a fast friendship, brought upon partly for their shared interests (like trivia and chess) and because they both encounter Chad Glomus shortly before his untimely demise. Because of their conversations regarding the Glomus will, Fergie is later able to assist Professor Childermass when Johnny disappears and save his new friend from certain death. Fergie is again called to action for their next adventure: the disappearance of Professor Childermass.
