| Gorgo (dog) |
Pope Spatulus's dog, mentioned in Father Grabney's book The Dog at Rome: Famous Pets of Popes as being "too large" [St. Fidgeta & Other Parodies, 52].
The name translates to Gorgon in English (also see Gargan). Bowen adds that the insult 'the dog at Rome' "was a hostile reference to the Pope used by some historic Englishman. Making it the title of a book on 'Famous Pets of Popes' is a clever and delightful touch."
Grabney is another silly name. |
