Snodrog
The Pedant (ped'nt) of Flapping Forest who practiced the Art of Logic. Pedants love to show-off their knowledge and Snodrog is no different. However his outrageous collection of useless information comes with a price - you'd better agree with him or he'll use his wizardly smarts to turn you into a flimsy. And what fun would that be [The Pedant and the Shuffly]? Snodrog has a life-changing experience after encountering Sir Bertram’s Shuffly.

Snodrog is described as wearing “thick horn-rimmed glasses” and living in a miserable excuse of a house – “made out of stolen bed slats.” The evil Snodrog would sit in this miserable house all day long, covered from head to foot with chalk dust, working out logical problems [7].

Snodrog's name is derived from the backwards spelling of a former Chicago eatery, Gordon's, located on 57th Street. What exciting event in Bellairs' life that happened here is uncertain, except to say that it was memorable enough to warrant this character's name.

The character's inspiration, and pedantic tendencies, come from friend Donald Wilcox, who met Bellairs whilst living and attending school at the University of Chicago. Snodrog was modeled after Wilcox "not because he was obnoxious, nor had his brain cells winked out," says Marilyn Fitschen, "but because he was an erudite academic nitpicker."
