summary

Darkness falls across the land, the midnight hour is close at hand.... Vincent Price narrates this amusing collection of three tales of terror: The Ghost Belonged to Me, by Richard Peck; Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and John Bellairs’ The House with a Clock in its Walls.

the good
  • Lewis Barnavelt finally makes it out of a book!
  • Uncle Jonathan with a hammer! Watch out!
  • Aba bēbē bachabē” - and away we go!
  • John Bellairs is mentioned as author of the source text and Vincent Price name checks the guy. Too cool!
  • They are actually two other stories you can watch - The Ghost Belonged to Me and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!

the bad
  • The oatmeal scabs on Mrs. Izard’s face.
  • Tarby’s nicknames for Lewis, like “Wiz” and “Hot Shot.”
  • What – was Mrs. Zimmermann on vacation?
  • Uncle Jonathan’s dressing gown.
  • “I hope this isn’t a distant relative....”

the ugly
  • Selenna’s raspy voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard – ewwww!
  • Lewis levitates? Uh....
  • Some of the music has dated since 1979, but it still creates a suspenseful mood.
  • Believability: Lewis acts a little too cocky at times.
  • All this took place in 20 minutes?
