In reality, a river in the Black Mountains of Wales, flowing southeast to near Newport that is closely associated with the legend of King Arthur.

Bowen notes that although Fidgeta was written before his sojourn in that part of the world, "John may have heard of the name and I'm sure he would have liked the sound."
